About

Our mission

The goal of The Travel Memoir Review is to:

  1. Delight readers with brilliant travel book recommendations
  2. Promote authors of brilliant travel books
  3. Support publishers of brilliant travel book writing

Why? Because the travel memoir genre is a somewhat unsung genre. In the world of big publishing, it’s a small player. Yes, there are a handful of names that made the mainstream – Bill Bryson and Elizabeth Gilbert for example – but in the grand scheme, travel memoir doesn’t occupy a lot of shelf space. Nor webspace for that matter. Until now…

Which is a shame. Because travel memoir can deliver not only exciting, dramatic, evocative and funny storytelling, but it also enlightens us about places, people, culture and times most of us will never experience ourselves. It entertains and educates. It can inspire wanderlust and make us long for faraway lands. It can invoke powerful nostalgia for locales we once knew and loved. And sometimes, it can make us thankful to be in the comfort and safety of our own home.

And that is why we decided to do something about it. By setting up The Travel Memoir Review, we shine a spotlight on the genre, celebrate the best travel memoir books, authors and publishers, and help readers explore the world from their armchairs.

Who is behind The Travel Memoir Review?

The TMR was founded by a travel writer and travel memoir author. Realising there was a dearth of places dedicated to travel memoir reading, he decided to change that by creating this site.

Our editoral team is an alliance of professional writers, publishers, editors, and of course avid readers of, travel memoir and travelogue books.
